Dining and Nutrition With Our Hostesses
We have a team of Hostesses at Beaumont Manor who support our residents during meal times. The role of a Hostess complements the role of the catering/nursing and care team. As a Hostess, the team is responsible for supporting the residents with good hydration and nutrition. From supporting residents by making informed choices about what they want to eat, offering their favourite foods and/or a new dish, to replenishing water jugs, to offering tea/ coffee, mid-morning and afternoon home-cooked cakes, the role has many aspects.
The main focus described in the latter is then complemented by the personalities of the hostesses and each resident every day sees Tammy, Michaela, Valerie or Margaret. The Hostesses engage so well with residents and often in the corridors, you can hear laughter between residents and staff. If one of our hostesses is on leave, our residents ask where they are which goes to show how much of a positive effect our Hostesses have on them. The Hostesses are trained in knowing about different diets and textures and support our care and nursing staff to support our residents to eat and drink.
Our hostess report any concerns to the nurses in charge. The role of the Hostess Is a pivotal part of our team and by supporting our residents every day, we know that our residents are getting the food and drink they want and also being aware and encouraging residents who struggle with eating or drinking, and weight gain or weight loss.
